Las VegasI had business meetings 6/21/- 6/24 but I flew out a couple days early to drive around and take some pics. I rented a Vette on the first day and a Jeep Commander for the remaining days. The desert was beautiful and 114F. If you like desert scenery I highly recommend the loop: E. Lake Mead Rd, Northshore Rd, Valley of Fire, I-15 (back to Vegas). It took me about 4 hours because of freqent stops for photos.but if you drove straight through it might be just 2 hours. Valley of Fire was inhabited an estimated 300BC - 1150 AD and there are several examples of ancient rock art in the park. I look forward to my return after I brush up on my blackjack game.

Westfield Iron Dogs -- October 2006The Westfield HS Ice Dogs hockey club held their first weight lifting competition October 24, 2006. Coach McCeney has put together an effective program and with the commitment from the boys on the team, the results are impressive. The Ice Dog weightlifters, collectively known as the Iron Dogs, have limited ice time and they have made their off-ice conditioning an effective strength building and team building experience. Coach McCeney put together a challenging and varied set of events for the Ice Dog team to compete in. In this competition, Jasen Lenker (junior) placed third, Connor McCeney (freshman) second, and Nick Polera (junior) first. Congrats to the winners and all the Iron Dogs who've worked hard and are now beginning to show results. We look forward to see what Coach McCeney cooks up for the next Iron Dogs competition.

Cycling on the W&OD TrailThe trail is a great regional resource and cycling is a great form of exercise. I try to get a long bike ride in every week, usually on the W&OD. A couple of useful links are Friends of the W&OD and the extensive Unofficial Page of the W&OD Trail.

DC AIDS Ride 2001This was my first major cycling event and training for it was a major commitment. I started in November struggling to go just 7 miles. By June I managed 350 miles in 3 1/2 days.
