Charlie's Comments on the Christmas Carol Photo Shoot

Once again I enjoyed doing the photo shoot. Please enjoy browsing the images on the Web and take advantage of downloading or printing the images for your personal use. The images are captured in a standard 35mm aspect ratio of 1:1.5. This makes for a natural fit for 4x6 prints but they will need cropping to adjust to the 5x7 or 8x10 formats. Webshots and Ofoto both offer good quality services. You can also download the fullsize images and print them on your home photo quality printer or bring them to your favorite photo service for printing.

Technical Details
All photos were taken with a Canon 10D and a Canon 550EX flash. The majority of the shots were taken with the flash bounced off the high ceiling and a pop-up reflector on the flash body provided catchlights for the eyes. The ISO rating for all the shots was 400. Nearly all the photos were taken with a Sigma 17-30mm zoom. A Quantum Turbo Z external battery pack provided the power needed to bounce off the high ceiling and provide fast recycle times. The images were captured in a JPEG format and processed through Photoshop for levels, sharpening, cropping, and compression.

The photo shoot and the post-processing were easier the second time around. The stage lighting was broader and it seemed to be a little brighter than at the R&G shoot. I also adjusted the lighting levels on my flash to be more prominent instead of providing a relatively weak fill as in the R&G shots. I shot at a 400 ISO rating instead of 800, significantly reducing the noise (grain) in the images.
